MTF Maintains Clean Audit for Another Financial Year

Governance continues to be a clean job at The Market Theatre Foundation. This as the iconic cultural institution once again achieved a clean audit outcome, maintaining its commitment to good governance, internal controls, sound financial management, compliance and accountability.

“In my opinion, the financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of The Market Theatre Foundation as at 31 March 2026,” stated the Auditor-General in her report to Parliament for the financial year under review.  “I believe that the audit evidence I have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for my opinion.”

Tshiamo Mokgadi, Chief Executive Officer of The Market Theatre Foundation, said keeping a clean audit for the second year is more significant considering the challenging financial environment in which the organisation operates.

“Sustaining this clean audit outcome,” Mokgadi remarked, “is particularly meaningful in the context of the financial and operational pressures facing the organisation.”

“It reflects the continued strengthening of our systems of governance, financial management, compliance, internal control and accountability, and the collective discipline required across the organisation to maintain these standards.”

The clean audit is also supported by strong organisational performance, with the Foundation meeting 95% of its non-financial performance targets during the reporting year. In addition to finding no material non-compliance with key legislation, the Auditor-General further reported no material findings on the Foundation’s annual performance report.

The 2025/26 fiscal year marked the first implementation of MTF’s five-year Strategic Performance Plan, which outlines strategic areas of focus between 2025–2030, including revenue generation, fundraising, touching lives through impactful programming, fostering a unified workforce, strengthening internal efficiencies and building on the institution’s decades-long legacy.

CEO Mokgadi credited this achievement to the dedication and collaborative efforts of employees across the institution, saying it demonstrated organisation’s commitment to delivering on its mandate in a constrained environment.
